Historic reference

The Regional Document Preservation Center was established by order № 384 of the TSU Rector dated June 17, 2002 on the basis of the former Unit of Hygiene and Restoration in Office of Manuscripts and Rare Books (established in1988). In 2005 the name was changed to Regional Document Preservation Center.

The Center was established as a result of implementing the project "Establishing Regional Curation and Preservation Service Center" in the framework of the Federal Target Program "Russian Culture" (2001-2010).

The Center includes four art restorers and one technician certified by the RF State Commission. The employees studied at the leading national and international restoration centers: Russian State Library (Moscow), All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature (Moscow), I.E. Grabar All-Russian Scientific-Restoration Art Centre (Moscow), Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg), Berlin State Library (Berlin), Oxford Restoration Consortium (UK) Austrian National Library (Vienna).

Activities

• Provide scientific and methodical, consulting, and practical support on a wide range of issues related to ensuring the preservation of writings and printed monuments.
• Provide support to libraries, museums, archives on establishing curation and preservation offices.
• Carry out an expert review of library stocks and their condition.
• Restoration activity: restoration of books, leather bookbindings, archival documents, maps, atlases, graphic works, posters, and others.
• Disinfection of documents with biological damage.
• Disinfection of documents with biological damage.
