Beat procrastination with Shut Up & Write
On April 7 at 16:00 a regular meeting of Shut Up & Write will take place at the International Resource Center of the TSU Research Library. This time the guest speaker will be Carolina Botteschi, a first-year PhD student at the Faculty of Philology at TSU. She suggested discussing the following topic: “How do you hurl “thoughts-in-freedom” onto such a brittle medium?”. Shut Up & Write sessions for students and researchers have been held in the Research Library since 2020. ‘We liked the concept of Shut Up & Write: to turn an isolating activity into social,’ comments Elena Tsukanova, initiator of the sessions and head of the International Resource Center. ‘Very often people need to overcome procrastination when they have to meet the deadlines and finish a part of their theses or graduate papers quickly. These sessions may serve as a motivation tool for students and researchers to write well united by one goal and providing moral support to each other.’ Experience has shown that it is not enough just to gather in one place and write. To overcome isolation and motivate themselves to engage in the process of writing, students and researchers need to communicate and exchange opinions. That is why the sessions are held with guest speakers as well and writing issues are discussed here. According to Elena V. Tsukanova, it is the regularity of meetings for writing and communication that helps to beat procrastination, as well as moral support. Shut Up & Write sessions are held on Thursdays from 15:00 to 16:00 in the German Reading Room of the International Resource Center. Meetings with guest speakers are announced separately. Questions?
