Registration in the libraryRegistration in the Research Library involves an issue of a Reader Card and provision of access to resources and services. The registration is available to any TSU student or staff member or any other person over 14 years old. Virtual reference serviceThe virtual reference service (the second name – Ask a Librarian) processes requests from remote users. It searches information by subject, checks availability of items, clarifies bibliographical description of the item, delivers factual information, etc. Laptops and tablets provisionTo work in the library you can get tablets in the Research Commons and laptops in the English and German Reading Rooms, the Research Commons and Reading Room No. 3. Bibliographic queries“Request-response” bibliographic queries imply checking of incorrect or incomplete information about a book or an article; checking specific facts, terms, obscure words, interpretation of abbreviation. Delivery of books from book depository on requestIf requested by a reader, books are delivered from the book depository to the reading room or the Delivery Desk. A written request should be submitted to a librarian of the 24/7 Information Centre. You can also submit your request online both via E-catalogue and electronic version of card catalogues. If you are a TSU student or staff member you can borrow items for 1 month, otherwise you can use them in reading rooms. Wi-Fi accessUniversity campus-wide Wi-Fi network ‘TSUNetFree’ is installed in the library. There are 20 Wi-Fi hotspots that cover all the reading rooms and halls of the library’s new and old buildings. The data transfer rate is 100 Mbps. Access to the E-catalogue of TSUThe TSU RL E-catalogue provides information about bibliographic records of books, newspapers and magazines since 1993. It includes hyperlinks to full texts of published works in the E-library (http://vital.lib.tsu.ru); to books and articles from remote licensed databases; to significant full-text websites and online portals. It also provides full information about the place of storage of the document and its current state (available, requested, reserved, issued, etc.). Access to the E-library (repository) of TSUWith access to the E-library, you can view, read and copy full texts in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation. The full volume of resources is available from computers of the TSU network. You can access writings and articles made publicly available due to the expiration of the specified period of validity of the exclusive right to them, due to agreement with the right holder, or due to the right granted by publisher to the author. Access to remote and local databasesYou can access remote and local databases via TSU and RL Library networks, that is, academic and educational information (bibliographic, abstract, review, etc.) and to the full texts of books, articles, dissertations, patents, legislative and other documents included in the databases that TSU is subscribed to. The access is granted to the TSU RL network users. The RL website provides a complete list of available data. Documents indexingDocuments indexing assumes the assignment to the book or article of the designation necessary for registration in TSU or in publishing houses in accordance with the UDC or LBC classification systems. To determine UDC index by your own you can use the online UDC reference book accessible from all Research Library workstations. Notification of teachers, post-graduate students and researchers upon requestLibrarians may e-mail notifications to teachers, post-graduate students and researchers of TSU upon their request (subject of interest, new acquisitions, subscription to databases, and so on). Consultations on how to draw up bibliographic part of academic papersConsultations on how to draw up bibliographic part of academic papers involves oral familiarization of the reader with the rules of drawing up the cover sheet, reference list, links, foot-notes, notes in any kinds of research papers. My AccountMy Account in the E-catalogue – the User’s personal page, authorization is required. In My Account there is a list of the borrowed items with the data of lending/returning , the name of the books requested from the book depository, the information about the penalties due for the late book returns, lists of previously selected items from the e-catalogue, saved files, list of tags assigned to items. Options: 1. Extension of the term of books usage. 2. Saving the search results. 3. Creation of the bibliographic list in compliance with the national standards. Interlibrary loanAn interlibrary loan offers making and delivery of the documents copies (articles, specific pages) from the library stock. If some items are missing in TSU RL, you can request them from other libraries: original printed documents for temporary use (except thesis works, deposited manuscripts, other unpublished materials, rare and highly valuable editions, reference books and fiction); microfilms, microfiches for temporary use; photocopies of specific pages of the printed documents and e-copies of documents for personal use. Extension of the term of books usageYou can extend the term of books usage through My Account at the E-catalogue, at the Delivery Desk, or by phone 78-51-49. Speaking clubs in foreign languagesThe library arranges meetings speaking clubs. Social and cultural activitiesThe library arranges public events: The Library Night, exhibitions, clubs meetings, festivals, debates and others. Testing and TOEFL iBT training coursesTesting and TOEFL iBT training courses include a test of English and a two-month TOEFL iBT intensive training course. Online requests to the Delivery DeskOnline requests to the Delivery Desk include borrowing of books from the Delivery Desk, book depository and reading rooms upon readers’ electronic, handwritten or oral requests to work at home or in reading rooms.
